The South of France has many names – the Riviera, the Cote d’Azur – and for good reason.
Few destinations offer so much in the way of beaches, villas, culinary delights, culture, art, yachting and more. From Monaco to St. Tropez, you can either enjoy the nightlife until the early morning or relax in the Mediterranean sun.
As much as we love the coast – and we’ll have some recommendations for you tomorrow – we also love the authenticity and beauty of Provence. Although it may be further from the social centers such as Monte Carlo, Provence is also therefore all the more relaxing and wonderful for your family.
Here are some of our villa recommendations from our friends at Luxury Retreats.
Chateau de Candolle is a bit more than a villa, as its name suggests. It has 11 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and sleeps up to 22 friends and family. It is set on a 700 acre estate with a pool, hammam and tennis court and in true Provencal fashion is nestled amongst almond and olive groves.
Your stay includes a butler, chef and manager and more amenities than can be listed: cigar room, home theatre, wine cellar for sampling vintages and a helicopter pad for convenient arrival and departure.
Ulysse’s owners have done an impeccable job of updating the villa for all of our modern desires but while maintaining an historic, authentic Provencal feel. Fields of lavender grace the property along with the sort of spiral trees one hopes to find at their estate in Provence. Follow the majestic and rambling fountain through the grounds where you will discover surprise after surprise.
Golfers will delight at the nearby options and your family will be comfortable with the 6 bedrooms, 6 baths, pool, hammam and plentiful seating and dining areas for any time or occasion.
This estate is comprised of two 18th century farmhouses, each with 6 bedrooms, which means the property can sleep as many as 24 friends and family. You will be surrounded by 4 acres of gardens, olive groves, lavender and designer trees. You may enjoy the heated infinity pool, sauna or fitness room. Enjoy the library, breakfast nooks and ample outdoor dining space.
Like Villa Ulysee, golfers will very much feel at home, but so will history enthusiasts, with the Pope’s palace nearby along with Isle Sur La Sorgue and Orange, which has ruins of the ancient Roman theatre built under Emperor Augustus.
Although a smaller villa in comparison to Chateau de Candolle or Villa Ulysse, La Bastide de Rustrel is nonetheless an appealing and enjoyable villa. Although it maintains traditional elements of Provence, Rustrel has also incorporated contemporary elements of architecture, giving it a beautiful balance of old and new.
And with the ability to sleep up to 18 guests, La Bastide de Rustrel offers incredible value.
Le Clos de Meaux, or CDM for short, is a stunning Provencal estate located by just a 15 minute helicopter ride from Nice.
With over 150 acres of lavender, olive groves and truffles and with not just an extensive main villa but over 10 bastides, CDM is simply one of the most exquisite properties in Provence. Royalty, celebrities and titans of industry alike have vacationed here, and after having just undergone a thorough and extensive renovation of every inch of the property, CDM is grander and more inviting than it ever has been.
Le Clos de Meaux is a part of the Culture Home portfolio and we would be delighted to assist you.
